Orlin Márquez, was born and grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela. From his late teens to mid twenties, he traveled extensively and lived in Europe for approximately 7 years. He returned to the U.S. in August of 1988 where he completed a BA in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication at Toccoa Falls College in northeastern Georgia.  In 2001, he completed a Masters in Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management at Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. In 2010 Orlin completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became an RN the same year. Later on, he went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree at Vanderbilt University in 2012 and 2016 respectively. 

Orlin started teaching in 1985 when he worked as an ESL instructor in Venezuela and also taught Spanish to U.S. Citizens living in Venezuela at the Centro Venezolano Americano del Zulia. He helped establish a language services department at a level-two trauma center in Elgin, IL and served as a Cross-Cultural Communications instructor for International Teams—a Christian community development organization in Elgin, IL. In 2003, he moved to Atlanta and set up a language services department at Piedmont Hospital (where he worked as Language Services Manager) and was responsible for the LEP program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Piedmont Mountainside Hospital as well. Orlin has been very involved in the area of Medical interpreting and diversity training.  He was certified as a “Bridging the Gap” instructor in 2003 and currently teaches the 60-hour “Healthcare Interpreter Training” course, which is licensed by Link2Spanish Language Services.  From 2005 until 2015 he worked for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in various capacities: language services coordinator, practice manager, staff nurse and nurse practitioner.  He was President of the Medical Interpreter Network of Georgia from 2004 to 2010. In addition, he served as a council member for the Georgia Department of Community Health’s Minority Health Advisory Council from 2006 to 2008. Presently, Orlin works as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Health Center Manager for Premise Health at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Employee Health.  After a brief hiatus from the medical interpreting profession, he is now back, fully engaged with this ever growing community of dedicated professionals.  He lives in Buford, Georgia with his wife Maria and three sons: Jared, Brian and Emmanuel.
